No Money For A TradePsalm 27:14

I Am Saving For The One I Must Not Do

This message is for the man who has correctly identified the job that is beyond him and has to wait months for it, without letting the waiting turn into a verdict about his hands

You worked it out correctly, and that is the part nobody gives you any credit for.

You looked at that job. You read about it. You understood, honestly, that it is not one for you, and that doing it would mean a real risk and probably a bigger bill afterward.

So you are waiting, and saving, and it is going to be months.

And somewhere in those months, waiting has stopped feeling like a decision and started feeling like a description. Every time you walk past it, it says the same thing, and what it says is not: I made a sensible call. What it says is: still.

Let me put this down before anything else. Not knowing how is not a character flaw, and neither is not having the money yet. Identifying a job that is beyond you is a skill, and it is the specific skill that keeps people alive, and almost nobody names it as one.

I Am Saving For The One I Must Not Do

Wait on the Lord

There is a line at the end of Psalm 27 that is about waiting, and the shape of it is worth noticing.

Wait on the Lord: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the Lord. (Psalm 27:14, King James Version)

Look at what is attached to the waiting. Be of good courage. That is not a phrase anybody attaches to something easy.

Courage is for hard things, and David puts it right beside waiting, which tells you exactly what he thought waiting costs.

You have a verse that treats waiting as a thing requiring courage, and months of not being able to act has never once been the passive option. Psalm 27:14 puts good courage and waiting in the same short line, and the Holy Spirit is the one who lets that read as recognition rather than as an instruction to be patient.

And notice that he says it twice. Wait on the Lord, and then, at the end of the same verse, wait, I say, on the Lord. He repeats himself, which is what a person does about something that is genuinely hard to keep doing.

You are being addressed about something Scripture repeats itself over, and needing to be told twice has never once meant a man is weak about it. The Spirit of God is the one who strengthens a heart in the middle of a wait rather than at the end of it, and it is written in Psalm 27 that the strengthening happens while the waiting is still going on.

Waiting and stuck are not the same thing

Here is the distinction that has collapsed, and putting it back is most of tonight's work.

A job that is waiting has a decision behind it, a reason, and a date it is heading toward. It is an active position. Somebody chose it and somebody is doing something about it every month.

A job that is stuck has none of those. It sits there because nothing is happening and nothing is planned.

From the outside, in a hallway, at eight in the evening, those two look absolutely identical. And after four or five months, the difference stops being visible even to the person who made the decision.

You have a waiting job that has quietly started to look like a stuck one, and a correct decision has never once turned into a failure by taking a long time. It is written in Psalm 27:14 that the waiting comes with courage attached, and the Holy Spirit is the one who keeps a decision visible to the man who made it.

And here is the second thing, which is about what it does to everything else in the house. When one job carries the word still, it spreads. It gets on the other jobs. A man who walks past one thing he cannot do starts to find the small things he can do slightly heavier too.

That is why this article is not really about the job being saved for. It is about the eleven others.

Now the limit, and let me say it plainly, because in your case the limit is the whole point. Never a gas appliance, never the breaker panel, never mains wiring, never a wall holding the building up, never a roof. Call a licensed professional and pay them properly. You have already got this right, and getting it right for another four months is exactly the same decision repeated.

You are entirely right to hold that line for as long as it takes, and repeating a correct decision every month has never once been the same as doing nothing. The Holy Spirit is the one who gives a man peace inside a long wait, and Scripture attaches courage to the waiting rather than to the acting.

Name it as a wait, then do a different one

So here is the ask, and it is two things and they take about eleven minutes together.

Name the job out loud as a job being waited for, and do a different one tonight.

First the naming. Stand in front of it and say it plainly. This is not mine. I am saving for this. It is not stuck, it is waiting, and I am waiting on purpose.

You are able to say one sentence in front of a job and change what it means, and naming a wait out loud has never once been a way of excusing anything. The Spirit of God is the one who keeps a decision from decaying into a state, and Psalm 27:14 puts courage and waiting together in one line.

Say it out loud, because the word still has been saying itself out loud in your head every time you walk past, and a thought does not answer a thought.

Then go and do a different job. A small one, tonight, that is entirely yours. A hinge, a handle, a bulb, a drawer.

That second half matters more than it sounds. What has been happening is that one job you cannot do has been quietly taxing every job you can, and the only thing that reverses that is doing one of them.

You have permission to be a man who is waiting for one thing and working on another, and doing a small job tonight has never once been a distraction from a bigger one. It is written in Psalm 27 that the heart is strengthened during the wait, and the same Spirit who breathed that line is standing in that hallway with you.

The breakthrough

So here is what I believe is being said over a man standing in his own hallway tonight.

You have correctly named a job that is not yours, and waiting months for a professional has never once been a failure of the man doing the waiting. I am not telling you to attempt it and I am not handing you a verdict on six months. Psalm 27:14 attaches good courage to waiting and then says it a second time, and it is the Holy Spirit and not my saying so who is standing there with you.

And this, which is the word I came with:

You have four sentences and one small job available tonight, and six months of the word still has never once been stronger than a man saying out loud that he is waiting on purpose. The written word puts the strengthening inside the wait rather than after it, and the Spirit of God is the one who is going to be there when you say it.

Name it. Then do a different one.

Declare this over yourself

  1. Job I am saving for and must not touch, you are a correct decision and you were never once a verdict on my hands. Psalm 27:14 says wait on the Lord and be of good courage, so by the Holy Spirit I name you a wait tonight, in the name of Jesus.
  2. Word still that arrives every time I walk past it, you have no claim on a man who is saving on purpose. The written word attaches courage to the waiting and then says it again, and by the Spirit of God I am done letting one job I cannot do tax every job I can.
  3. Father, You told him to be of good courage in the middle of the waiting and to wait again, and Your word says the heart is strengthened while it is still going on. So by Your Spirit I say it out loud tonight, and then I go and do a different job with my hands.

Why we ask you to say these out loud

The word this stands on
